Skiers have the same problem with lift passes. Some ski jackets have got
clear pockets on the upper arm for the lift passes. I'm sure I still have an
elasticated clear pocket/armband thingy I bought in Italy.

I carry mine in a zipped pocket. I don't take the train very often,
mind.

Skiers have the same problem with lift passes. Some ski jackets have got

My Oyster (TfL) card works through at least some layers - I have been known
to put it in the pocket on my Tilley Hat and operate the gates by doffing
the hat (which I can do with gloves on). While the Oyster/ITSO argument
(and other paralell arguements about "smart" cards) rumble on I guess we'll
have to wait for such functionality on the main railway network.

The mention of ski kit reminds me of those pass holders that have a auto
return string. They can be used with gloves - you just need somewhere to
attach it to the outside of your clothing and assumes a ticket that can be
attached at the other end.

If I'm wearing a jacket then I put it in one of the side pockets otherwise I
have it in my hand ready.

They have ITSO card readers on buses here. They are useless and
cause endless trouble and delays. It might occasionally work if
there is only a thin layer of plastic between the card and reader,
but most people take their card out and even then it often takes two
goes to work.

I saw a guy whos gloves had a zipped pocket on the back which he had his Oyster card in. Didn't even need to take his gloves off.

For paper tickets I keep mine on the back of my hand inside the gloves; seems to work for me. Pull glove down with other hand then pull out ticket with teeth. By this time you'll probably get a " go on mate" from the ticket guy/girl.

Most ski resorts seem to be going to a contactless system like an
oyster card now and most ski jackets have an upper arm pocket that
lines up nicely with the reader as you shuffle up to the lift. You
can also get ski gloves with a pass pocket on the back, but obviously
this is easier to loose.
