Cycling Mac Users

i'm a mac-user wannabe, but use pc's because of work.... *** *** work.

any senior software engineers/java programmers out there willing to work for a non-profit (at non-profit rates) on windows nt/2000 environment? send me a pm!

*sigh* didn't think so....

but my boyfriend has a G4 tower with two monitors (a blueberry and a graphite!). he thinks he's going to let me have it, but i don't know... that sounds like a big commitment. but i sit here sometimes rubbing my hands in greedy anticipation...

I switched to Mac about 10 years ago and have made my living with them ever since. Even designed a bike on one (mine's the x-ray) :

I don't want to start another feud, but I love my Mac and (completely unrelated) Shimano components!

I'm on my trusty iBook, my dads got his G4 laptop and my bro has the G3 laptop. We're definitely a mac biased family. 🙂

I use a Powerbook G4 at home and love it!

Although I grew up with a Mac and a friend’s parent worked for apple I’ve moved to PC’s. Mostly because I build my own computers for savings and I enjoy it. However, I did find an iPod on the street that went unclaimed for a few months that I know absolutely love. Some aspects of what Apple creates are downright ingenious, others could use some work.

I'm running Mac OS X Panther 10.3.1 on a 500 MHz G3 PowerBook (FireWire a/k/a "Pismo"😉 with 1 GB RAM. I've been using Macs for 12 years now.

Just when you thought you geeked out enough with bikes comes along a geek thread on computers. . . .

Talking about operating systems, you know what amazes me? I recently attended a mac users group meeting in a nearby town, and almost half were using OS 9!!!! I mean, MOVE ON already!! I just got panther and i love it. Still needs a little work but the new patch should fix that....

Well, I'm writing this on a Rev B, Bondi blue iMac. I've been a mac-head since the IIC. MDW is currently working on her eMac. I monitor and maintain 6 towers from the "desklamp" iMac to a new 15" powerbook as well as a G4 Webserver. I'll be in the market for a new G4 for the freelance web/video stuff and 20" iMac because I think it's just too cool!

I've been a bike commuter in SoCal for the past 9 years. I have a Cannondale Aero 1000 that I race in public races and time trials. I have a Specialized FSR I race off-road as well. All Shimano components that work just fine. I'm getting a Trek Fuel 98 with the disc brake option although I'm not too sure how the new dual-controls levers are going to work out. I'll keep my mind open though. I've ridden a recumbent for a few years and would love to have one of those again for my commuting.

That should just about do it.

I'm one of those nuts who can't stand noise so use the fanless G4 Cube, also a Pismo laptop. Have loved Mac's for many years.

BTW the BBC is running a poll about who is more important in the techworld: Gates or Jobs, and as of this morning Jobs is ahead by about five to one.

i'm a nyc-based magazine art director with 15 years mac experience, use a 15" powerbook g4 and cinema screen, i use quark xpress every day, and so i remain on os9. i can't instantly share mp3s with people on my network, or use isight, but i can do my job

You're gonna have to bite the bullet pretty soon. eddieb. I keep a G4 with OS9 (still my favorite) and an OS9 partition on my TiBook so I can run a few favorite old programs (like Quark4) and plugins but my new G5's got Panther which does have some great improvements. I hated having to buy new software (and don't plan to upgrade anything for quite a while) but it's been worth it. It really is convenient being able to run all my programs at once and not having to split up my ram. Also, if one program crashes (hmmm, that happen much in Quark4???) it really doesn't bring down the rest of the system. I really didn't like OSX at first and didn't use it at all on my G4. Over the past couple of years, though, I think the program has matured nicely. Give it a try if you can.

Adobe InDesign is native OS X.

yeah i'll be moving to indesign (and natch panther) in 04. been using quark daily for over a decade, and of course i use keyboard shortcuts exclusively, so it's gonna slow me the hell down for a while.

quark is totally unstable in osx. type gets all messed up (no atm i believe).

I own an ad agency, and that's almost all we use. We have 2 PC's, one for accounting the other is exclusively for my HAC4 cycling program. I did pretty well this summer getting free registration for bike ride by trading out logo designs (which I do draw by hand first, then transfer to the computer).

Been in IT for about 5 years now, needless to say the backend is all Windows 95% of the time, so that's all I know. I recently got my first iMac, the pur-ty one with the flat panel monitor. Like it very much, the first weekend I got it I made my first DVD movie.
Software availability is my biggest gripe about the Mac though, as well as speed, for 2 grand this machine doesn't feel nearly as fast as a 600 dollar pc. But even with that said, I really like it.

I'm on PC and loving it. I do work on "Mac software" like Freehand, Photoshop, Indesign and Golive daily. Worked on a Mac for a while and was a good experience. Here is South Africa Macs and Mac software are way too expensive. You will only find them in the design studios.
