  1. Hi everyone,

For a long long time I have had problems with severe fatigue and it seems to be all tied up with
eating, especially in the morning. Very quickly after eating breakfast ( I feel very drowsey and
drunk like and very very tired) This can happen about 10 minutes after eating and can take a few
hours to reduce a bit (but the fatigue never leaves me).

I took my BG levels this morning and would like some advice on then. They are probably normal but
worth checking with you guys anyway.

    7:30 - Fasting BG of 4.4
8:00 - Ate some just right cereal with milk and a piece of rye bread
    9:18 - BG of 10.2mmol (183)
    10.25 - BG 8.8
    11.10 - BG of 6.4.

I guess I am wondering whether the big jump from 4.4 to 10.2 over such a short space of time could
be causing the problems? Is this normal? If not, then why does it make you so tired?

Thank you all so much for your consideration.

(Please note that this is a personal meter and I was just testing my BG to see if that could be the
root of my evil. Also it may be worth nothing that in my 5 hour GTT my BG dropped to 2.2 in the
    second hour.)

    Thanks again.

    Cheers,

    Ray

The usual measure of post-prandial glucose control is the level two hours after eating, which should
generally be 6.7 (120) or less. 10.2 *seems* rather high, but I don't think there have been any
systematic studies of people's BG 20 minutes after eating, so it's hard to tell whether it's
"normal" or not. In the diabetes groups, however, you'll frequently hear stories where a diabetic
tests their non-diabetic spouse after he or she eats a really indulgent, carbohydrate-laden meal and
    the spouse's BG doesn't even budge from 4.7 (85).

You *did* wash your hands before testing, right? Residual glucose on the finger from handling food
    can cause false high readings.

Next time I'd measure before, 1 hour after, and 2 hours after. Don't automatically assume that your
2-hour reading is going to be lower than your 1-hour reading; different people peak at different
times, and also the nature of the meal can affect when the peak occurs (for example, many diabetics
find that pizza gives them a significantly delayed peak).

I have impaired glucose tolerance and reactive hypoglycemia. My fasting will be normal like yours,
and I can go up to 8-10 mmol/L after breakfast but I usually do not hit that level until the three
quarter to 1 hour mark. I also eat a more mixed meal that what you ate for this test and have been
on a diabetic type diet for a long time. It looks like your symptoms are connected to the very early
high BG level of 10.2 as I get the same way with highs. What is so different about yours is that it
is spiking so early at only 18 minutes after eating and then falls to normal levels by the one hour
mark whereas mine is peaking at the one hour mark. My GTT does exactly the same thing with the
glucose drink as with the mixed meal. Normal fasting, peaking at around 12 at the one hour mark and
then dropping fairly quickly although to the hypoglycemic levels by hour three. I don't always have
a hypo. attack with ordinary eating every day, just maybe 4-5 times a month. I would suggest seeing
    an endo. for further tests.

I thought you had posted that your BG dropped to 2.2 at the one hour mark not at 2 hours. This is
significant as I was going by the information in your first post of 2.2 at the one hour mark.
