This is the fourth time I have bent a fork back on a bike. The tire has never been popped in any of the cases, and only once was the rim damaged.
1 1994 thought a pile of leaves was a jump, on a gary fisher supercaliber. The pile had a metal sewer grate under it. continued to ride bike for a while
2. 1995 borrowed my roomates pink and blue girls giant mountain bike, hit side of stairway at apartment entrance. bike was still ridable, her parents bought her another better bike.
3. 2000 I was riding a natural slalom course, oak trees in city park, hit a large concrete 5'x5' concrete drain at night. smashed rear wheel as well on this one. same bike as now, original fork bent.
4. 2007 last night, snow pile. aluminum cross fork. see pics.

I don't suppose you've considered not running your bike into piles of things when you don't really know what's in/under the pile? Maybe you want to consider taking up road riding, where there are fewer things to hit?

I don't suppose you've considered not running your bike into piles of things when you don't really know what's in/under the pile? Maybe you want to consider taking up road riding, where there are fewer things to hit?

Fewer things to hit????? Now that's a laugh!!! On the road he can hit cars, trucks, bussed, curbs, pedestrians, dogs, and depending where he lives, Raccoons or Possums, skunks, and all mater of other wild-life.
I almost hit several deer driving down the road a few miles from my home on my bicycle several years ago. Almost hit deer in the same place on my Motorcycle and with the car.

Bent aluminium forks break suddenly and without further warning. They can not be bent back as can most steel fork tubes. Bent forks are bad but their sudden failure could be catastrophic. Replace the forks immediately, maybe with 'dozer blade. -- zk

I am fine, all four ended with little to no injury. I do road ride, I also ride off road. I will replace fork and did not intend to bend it back.
My most curious aspect as far as tech goes, is that the tire never popped, and the front rim has not been bent. The only rim damage was with the pool drain, there, the back rim was broken. dan
