New SCM High School Records

Pete Higgins, the coach at Westminster Schools, configured the pool to SCM to let the Hill and Weir
go after the records in the 200m free. He said this in the Atlanta paper just a few days ago. It
also got swimming some press! Don't the kids deserve some?

BTW, Pete Higgins has been coaching since 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia. He coached me in the 60s and
the early 70s and was a big influence to me and many kids in the Atalnta area. He will be
honored this January at a party by many of his former swimmers. If anyone out there is
interested send me an email.

|| Westminster, the defending girls AAAA/AAA/AA/A Georgia state high school swimming champions,
|| hosted Brookwood, the defending girls AAAAA champs, on Tuesday at Westminster's Turner
|| Gymnasium. Before the night was over, seven National High School short course meter records were

Yep, I like Pete too. I disagree with him sometimes, but I never doubt he puts the swimmer's best
interest first. My daughter likes swimming for him, and that means a lot. He seems to be able to
balance the needs of the year round swimmer and the high school seasonal swimmer well, something not
too many high school coaches seem to be able to do.

I do wish Amanda and Elizabeth were going to face each other in the state meet - that could be some
race, coming the week after nationals. 🙂
