  1. In 1995 German Lothar Leder broke the eight-hour barrier (7:57:02, Ironman Europe). Since then, the
eight-hour barrier has been crossed about eight more times.

I have been searching all over the net in order to make a complete list of athletes who have
accomplished to break the eight-hour barrier, but couldn't find all the answers. And the same goes
for women who have broken the nine-hour barrier.

    Do these lists exist somewhere?

  2. Hmmm. Let's see. It's been broken 8 time by 5 people.

Lothar Leder 7:57:02 (Roth '95) Luc van Lierde 7:50:27 (Roth '97) *WR Peter Reid 7:51:56 (Austria
    '99) Thomas Hellriegel 7:57:21 (Roth '97) Thoman Hellriegel 7:??:?? (Roth '99) Jurgen Zack 7:51:42
    (Roth '97) Jurgen Zack 7:?? (Roth '99)

I'm going to dig some more - I'm still missing 1. Haven't even looked at the women yet.

Wow, thanks. Great work from the guys at 3athlon.de. Now it figures why I did not get any hits, as I
    was googling in English.

Andrew, thanks also. I did not know about Peter Reids time at IM Austria. On the other hand, I had
the time from Jan van der Marels
(7:57:46, Almere Holland Triathlon, 1999). Combined, it made the list complete.

Wish I was that fast ....

It's all downhill (except the swim, which is with a current). And they don't enforce drafting rules.
And it's short by 18% on the bike and 8% on the run (the swim is actually 3% too long). And they
have powerful fans set up to create a tailwind. And the course timing is on the honor system: at the
end they ask you how long it took you after you subtract out for bathroom breaks and such. And
people are extra-motivated by trying to get in line for their post-race massage, which are rumored
to feature a "wrap-around happy ending."

hi matt, roth got's serveral trackchanges, but it is a still quite fast with a few litte hills for
relaxing. running is not quite fast, but all the crowds (~180.000 peoples; 2nd behind ironman
germany ~300.000 peoples) are pushing every minute.

for the records, you must notice, that germans are still extrem strong in roth or frankfurt and
foreign pros (eg. luc) has to go on their limits to success. but many failed incl. mark allen.
