  1. Didn't make it work this morning. Was all of about 300 metres away when
the "cyclist"[1] I was overtaking swerved in front of me (I think he was
about to make an illegal right turn). I had just enough time to shout
"look out!" and grab the brakes before the collision.

End up face down on the road, with him across my legs and my back hurting
*like hell!* Manage to get myself and my bike out the middle of the
junction, and phone 999 for an ambulance[2] following by calling work for
someone to collect my bicycle and lock it somewhere safe[3].

Loaded onto a back board and fitted with a neck brace by the ambulance
crew, followed by a drive to York hospital. 3 hours of A&E, including an
x-ray lead to the conclusion that my back's fine so it must be muscular
damage. Guess I'll be self-cert'ing the Tuesday->Saturday of next week.

Be safe the rest of you!

[1] And I use the word loosely given his lack of lights and general clue.
Though to be fair, he did stay with me until the ambulance turned up.
[2] As a realise quite how much it hurts and that further movement might
    be ill-advised!
[3] One of my friends at work turned up with a van, and said he'd take it
to his house since they're messing around with the bike space at
work. This is fine, except I've since realised I don't know his
    address! :-)

Sorry to read of your incident and hope you recover quickly.

I tend to assume as a matter of course that other cyclists whom I don't
know are clots every bit as much as motorists. Had I been overtaking
this person I'd have called out "on your right" or some such before
attempting to overtake. Might just have helped.

Most POBSOs round here wouldn't have a clue what that means, assuming
they could even hear over the things stuck in their ears. Either that,
or they'll assume you said "wanna fight?"

Oh well... more time to post stuff on here.

    Seriously though, hope you're Ok.
Can you sue anybody for this incident?

Heh, nowhere near as bad as you,,but I didn't have a great start today. I
have a short quick downhill into a left hand turn on my route. I have to pay
particular attention to a side road, where I get cut up regularly. Of course
I didn't notice the diesel on the turn....

Only lost skin/bruised and damaged jacket/trousers though. Chap in a car
stopped and seemed a little put off that I was more concerned about my bike
    than myself. Bike was fine.

    Jc.

Every time I have done that the POB has immediately moved, right!

The very thought of that had not even begun to cross my mind ... Not
    even slightly!

<shrugs> The POB did give me his name and mobile number (or at least, a
name and phone number) so, after giving it some thought after I limped
home from the hospital, I decided to call the CTC's legal advice line.

At which point I discovered I'd failed to tell the CTC when I'd moved
house, and my membership had expired without me noticing ...

In so far as there can be nice aspects to this, a pair of people did stop
to see how things where going. One cyclist, on a Gazelle IIRC, stopped
whilst I was still propping myself up on the barrier going "fsck this
hurts" and, after I'd decided that lying down and dialing 999 might be
course of wisdom, someone else came up to ask if I needed to call an
    ambulance ...

Oops - nightmare. Maybe they'll let you renew it if you tell them a
    sob story about moving house.
I was going to sue someone the last time I had an accident on my bike
but I couldn't work out who to sue - perhaps some of the posters can
help! I saw some character wandering up the street in lederhosen,
turned to stare and the next thing I was flat on my face on the
cobbles with my bike on top of me. Lederhosen guy did not stop to help
me up! Ended up with all kinds of cuts and bruises.

PS: I've just realized I think I know you.. unless there are millions
of Alistair Gunns in York....hadn't bothered to read the name of the
poster the first time I replied.

I phoned up and renewed pretty sharpish! Which was followed by the legal
advice line ringing me back to tell me they'd checked and I was still a
    member!

If there are several people with my name in York they've managed to
escape my attention, so I suspect you probably do know me? Which does
rather lead to the question of who you are?
