Biscuits and gravy treat

On our way to town this morning we stopped by Ray's [censored] Kitchen

to reserve a whole smoked chicken to be picked up later on our way
home. In my conversation with Ray I told him we were going to go out
for some biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Boy!! his eyes lit up and
he fixed us a little bowl of his biscuits and gravy to sample. We ate
it on our way to town. Stan said, now this is what I've been talking
about, he must have said that at least three times.

Later when we picked up the chicken I wanted to buy some gravy for
Stan to have for breakfast tomorrow morning, but all he had left was
about half a serving so he gave it to me, What a guy!!!. I plated it
with one of the biscuits he gave me so I could get a photo of it.
Honest, I didn't eat it, Stan will get it with his eggs in the
morning.

Koko, if you ever make it to St. Louis I'll have Steven make his B&G for
you. It's about the only thing he can cook besides pot roast. He says he
got the B&G reicpe and technique from my mother but I just can't believe
it. I can't remember my mother making B&G but maybe I was hung over and
still asleep when she made breakfast one morning.

Both my parents are from St. Louis. The last time I was there was when
I was 7 yrs old. I think we lived there for a couple of years. I
wouldn't mind going back for a visit.

traffic. I tried to stay away from him.

The b&g was in a bowl and we had a spoon. I was driving, Stan was
spoon feeding me. He was a little stingy with the gravy on my bites
though, several times I had to ask him to put a little more gravy on
that bite.;-)

The worst I saw during the 9 years was someone reading the morning
paper - regular size newspaper - and when he finished one page, he
picked it up away from the steering column, folded it out and then
back, so he could read the next page, blocking his vision the whole
time. Thankfully, it was an inter-city interstate, and didn't have
heavy traffic.

traffic. I tried to stay away from him.

Years ago I had a roommate who was always running late. He'd leave for work
with his PJs on and change clothes on the way to work. He worked as a
waiter. He also brushed his teeth and shaved in the car.

One day I noticed we had no more forks, plates or coffee cups. He had been
taking them to work with him and *eek* leaving them in his car. Yes, he was
actually eating plates of eggs and bacon and stuff in the car, with a fork!
And the coffee? No clue how he did that. He was driving a 1960's something
or other with no built in cup holders.

My husband reads maps while driving. I have no clue how he can do that and

Many years ago I knew someone who lived on fast food, and just tossed
the bags in the backseat. His car broke down at work and it sat there
for about 2 weeks. (he wasn't very motivated) After he fixed it and
started driving he realized mice had got in. They dug through the
bags and started tearing up the backseat and carpeting. I get the
creeps just thinking about it.

as an aussie, I always wondered what biscuits and gravy looked like

just one question (as the scone/biscuit question has been done to
bits)...why is the gravy so pale? Gravy, to me, is usually made from pan
drippings, but sometimes from a packet, but is usually some shade of brown

the pic showed what looked more like a white sauce (with additions; though
don't know what they were)

Basically it is. A milk or cream gravy is traditional with biscuits.

In the US at least, that sort of "gravy" _is_ a white sauce, usually with
cooked crumbled sausage in it. It's a common breakfast item on many
restaurant menus.

Gravy as you know it, is exactly that, a traditional gravy made with pan
drippings and usually broth.

crumbles of browned sausage in it. It tastes darned good if it's made
