At the moment i have sora 8 speed shifters and i want to up grade them to some with the long gear changer part, so i can change whilst down. Like the tigra lever. I was looking at the tigra ones and then noticed the campagnolo Ergopower Centaur ones. Also the xenon ones. How do these compare the the shimano stuff, as it seems better value for money.
Ps. sorry about poor explanation, i am new to racing bikes.

You have 8spd shifters, so your chain and cassette will be 8spd also. Tiagra is now 9spd, and 105 and higher are now 10spd. Older 8spd shifters are only available second-hand. This means that if you go to 9spd or 10spd, you will have to change your chain and cassette to the corresponding type. Moreover, if you go to Campy, you'll have to change the rear hub as well, and note that Campy chains and cassettes are not the same as the Shimano ones of the same speed.
Whether or not Campy is better value seems to depend on which country you're in.
Shimano make 8 speed "normal" STI Levers, ST-R500, they are in the "Non-Series Road Components" section. 😉

I stand corrected, George, how long have these existed?
Oh, i thought that the 9/10 speed was the top limit and that you could use 9 speed shifters on 8 speed bike. Dam
