I would say nay.

I rode home drunk once too often and ended up with a tibial palteau. I have no recollection of the incident and the lack of damage to my bicycle /suggests/ that it wasn't bicycle related.

If it wasn't bicycle related then the implication is that I was so drunk I managed to break my leg between getting in the door, depositing the bike and passing out on the couch. That's some feat, one not to be admired, in a single story dwelling so I count myself darned fortunate I didn't come a cropper on the bike or things could have been much worse.

I was however corpus enough to text bikesoiler that I'd be welching on the working bee. I've been to Lysty once since then (two weeks ago) and it was a blast :-)

Not "cool" as such, but I've been known to ride drunk from time to
time.

I still don't know whether one or both of us were risking our license
for riding drunk on the tandem. It used to be the preferred method of
transportation when there was drinking to be done.

Many, many years ago I had a few ales at a friend's house,
then at about 2am figured it was time to head home. It was
about 5km home, so my mate offered me the use of his
crappy old single-speed bike. 2am, no street lights, no
helmet, Perth hills, drunk as a lord. What an idiot.

When I woke up I was lying on the footpath staring at
the stars. The bike was about 5m away. My face hurt
a bit, but otherwise fine. Got back on the bike and rode
home. You know those guy cables they use to keep
power poles upright? Turns out this one was a bit low -
caught me across the face and lifted me right off the
bike. Not sure why I was riding on the footpath, would
have been safer on the road.

I think my mate might have nicked that bike because
he didn't want to take it back. I took it to uni the next
year and left it unlocked outside all my lectures. No
one wanted to steal it. Eventually I left it at the college
over the Christmas break and it was gone when I got
back. Don't think it was actually stolen, probably
someone was just tidying up. That was a really ugly bike...

Well, Kevin Rudd did it in NY, and he's likely to end up PM.

Years ago I tried it once after only 6 or 7 beers (consumed very quickly on an empty stomach), and it was MUCH harder than I thought: vision and balance were effected more than I anticipated. Never again 🙂

Better than drink driving. The person you're most likely to damage is you.

Although on the way home the other night from a partay we hit an RBT.
Luckily we just pulled off on to the footpath, pretended that the RBT
was dangerous for us to merge into with all the traffic, and walked our
bikes past the cops. They weren't really interested in us.

Except that by doing that you are only drawing attention to yourself,
whereas they will let you through otherwise because don't have the
jurisdiction to pull you over if they don't suspect you already of
being under the influence.

RBTs aren't dangerous to pass -- you just merge early like in normal
left lane traffic obstructions -- the cars will be going very slowly
anyway.

Well, I've been pulled over at an RBT stop once on my bike. Apparently the cop thought he had the right to do so. Either way, I don't care - I hadn't had a drink and I tend to think they should pull over everyone they can to catch the morons who endanger us all.

There was one ona semi regular basis on Dynon Rd in Footscray for a while. I
went through several times on the bike although they never actually stopped
me. I had occassion to drive one night and had the bike on the rack on the
back of the car. They pulled me over, tested me and then looked from me to
the bike and back to me.

"Hey you're the cyclist!"

It was the use of the definite article that cracked me up. On the spot. A
good time was had by all.
