Hey, I'm a huge King fan too -- just been rereading some of his
classics and "The Mist" was one of them. I don't want to ruin the
movie for anyone so I'll just say that I've never looked at grocery
stores the same way...

I think it was actually classified as a novella. I read it a LONG time ago.
I'm not sure whether I'd expect the movie to have the same ending as the
book, since the book just kind of petered out.

If you view the trailer you'll see it appears to be pretty accurate in terms
of the short story. Of course, this would be the case since he was one of
the screenplay writers.

I read it on the plane coming home last month. Very creepy, and I hope the movie does
it justice (though I have my doubts). Seems like they're always screwing up his
stuff...case in point: It. One of the best, scariest books ever and the "movie"
(mini-series, whatever) SUCKED. The only good thing about it was the choice of Tim
Curry for Pennywise.

On the other hand, the ones they've managed to do well, they do VERY well:
Carrie
The Shining (The original with Shelly Duvall and Jack Nicholson, not the new one)
Christine
Misery (LOVED Kathy Bates in that one)

Sleepwalkers was ok, and so was the Stand. Actually for a miniseries, the Stand was
pretty good, but missed alot of what was excellent about the book.

Dreamcatcher was a decent enough movie, but missed so much of what I loved in the
book. I think I might have liked it had I seen it alone, without having read the
book, but it's hard to tell since I did read it.

And I'll be avoiding grocery stores in any emergency now ;-) Too many ways for things
to go wrong!

I'm curious though...did you like or dislike the ending?
