I started running this summer, running a mile to a handball court and back home, after two months I
started running 3 miles, then to 6, 8, in October month I was able to go for an hour and 20 minutes,
then two weeks later was able to do 2 hours. The next week it all went to hell. I wanted to do a 3
hour or so run, I've had a little bit of tension in my shins, but halfway there my Achilles tendon
started to give way, as more time went on, the pain kept building on until I stopped at around 2
hours and 40 min. because I felt they were going to snap off. When I got home and started reading up
about my problems I found out I overpronate in my run, most of the sites said I should rest my feet
for a month and a half (!!!???) at a minimum. I stopped for a week and tried did a 40 min run, but
again the tendons were killing and slowing me down. So I bought a Dr. Scholl's dyna step inserts. I
could do mile run, with a little bit of tension. So stupidly I tried to pull off, an hour run, but
the same thing happened.
I know there are custom orthotics but my mother's health plan (I'm 18) doesn't cover it meaning
she would have to pay about 400 dollars and that' way out of her reach for just something like
my running.
Now my question is have any of you had the same problems and how long did it take to get rid of it
(or at least suppress it), and what did you use to get rid of it if anything. I truly don't want
to wait for a month and a half. I'm going to chill for 2 weeks or so, then I'm going to start
again for long runs. I really want to do 50 mile runs, but that's a long way away especially with
this going on.
Thanks
