raincoats

The best ones for sport (cycling, running, xc skiing etc) that I have found are just the cheap
plastic rain jackets with a cloth insert up the sides. Cut the sleeves off so that it is a vest and
you will keep fairly dry. They do work well believe it or not. Full length coats at just too hot and
uncomfortable. (for me anyway).

Try foot locker -- in one of the stores I was looking in, they had a discount rack with $5-$15 coats
that didn't look that bad

You can go into any walmart type store and buy a nylon wind breaker and it will be as good as any
cheap rain jacket anybody will sell on any web site.

Good rain gear is expensive because you are asking it to do a lot of work. Often at opposite ends of
each other. In order to keep the rain from getting through it must be waterproof. That is easy to
do, just put a coating of rubber over cloth and you are now waterproof. However if you want to run
in that jacket you would end up soaking wet from your own sweat. GoreTex and similar breathable
fabrics do an ok job at keeping rain out and letting sweat escape. But GoreTex and others are
expensive, upwards of $100.

My advice, buy a hat with a visor to keep the rain out of your eyes and enjoy getting wet. With the
$95 you didn't spend on a jacket that won't really work buy a nice warm robe so you can be nice and
warm after you get out of the shower following your run in the rain.

it's raining the temp is at least 32°F so that's not too cold. Just get a Gortex or waterproof nylon
running suit and use that. You don't have to keep every drop of water out, just enough to stay warm.
All the running stores sell such gear. And if the temperature is much above freezing you don't need
anything special.

When you use the word "raincoats", are you talking about raincoats, or is it slang for condoms? I
have a hard time keeing up on the current street lingo. Either way, get small ones.

FWIW, a lot of the usual brands make fairly low cost entry-level jackets around the $70USD- mark.
