  1. Hi, im looking to locate a harness for skipping on unicycle. I had a
book on unicycling a few years back that mentioned harnesses, but I
cant remember the name of the book, or where it said about to get
    harnesses.

I have started a course in fire eating, fire breathing, and stilt
walking. When i mentioned to the guy teaching me that I can unicycle,
he brought one along to see what I could do. Now i'm teaching him to
unicycle. I'm going to combine my fire arts with unicycling sometime
soon, along with fire skipping (which I am looking into), and stilt
    unicycling.

So, does anyone know where I can get a harness suitable for the said
    activities?

    Thanks.

  2. I haven't heard of anyone using a harness for unicycling.

By skipping, do you mean hopping/jumping?

If so, you do not need a harness to attach you and the unicycle. You
can use one hand on the handle of the seat, and use that, you can also
squeeze your legs in a little bit and hop with no hands on the
unicycle, this way you can juggle and do other activities with your
    free hands.

  4. I can hop, with hands on the seat, or without. it's just not going to be
very forgiving when skipping for a while.

  5. Ahh, ok.

I actually was doing this just a few days ago with a jump rope I found
    at a play ground.

Hopping is pretty easy on a uni. Have even pressure on your pedals, and
have the pedals at 3 and 9 o'clock position. If your hop and your
pedals start to move forward or backwards, your not using the right
    amount of pressure.

Hand onto the seat/handle with one hand, for me its my right, for you
it may be your left, and with the other hand hold onto a pole, a fence,
whatever you can keep your balance on.

Now get your feet like I said before, 3 and 9 position, either your
left foot in front, or your right, just which ever is comfortable, and
now stand up, get comfy, and now try to jump. As you jump, you pull on
the handle to keep it with you.

Keep doing this and try to move away from the wall. Just pretend the
unicycle is now a pogo stick, cause its the same motion.

Once your used to this motion, which actually is rather easy to get
down, you can learn to do it with no hands.

Everything is the same as above, except your not holding on the seat
any more, you kinda pinch the seat with your legs, and then start
jumping. It will rub a lot, but wearing cycle shorts under your pants
or something will help with that, or just get use to it.

Now you can jump on your uni with no hands, grab the jump rope out and
    start practicing your routine.

  6. Ok, you can skip everything I typed except for the cycle shorts part.
    Those help a bit.

Also, if you have hairy legs, just rough it out, the rubbing from the
seat will kinda remove the hair in that area, not fully, but enough to
the point that wont knot up and twist and get all red and chaffed.
After that it will be fine.

  7. Cheers.

I've got hopping under my belt, and along with 180's, 360's, the odd
crank flip, and occasionally riding one footed. Not ridden for a few
years, and the fire lessons got me back into unicycling. So I figure
    why not merge the two.

Lol, i'll look into getting some cycle shorts, I remember the chaffing
when i learnt to hop without using my hands.

  8. Bike shorts: good.

In my day, we used an automotive bungee cord. Around your waist in
back, and hooked under the edges of the seat in front. It worked with
    the old Schwinn seats, anyway.

I think I learned with a bungee, but I never used it in shows. It can
take some of the "edge" off all that seat chaffing when you're
learning, but you shouldn't need it once you're comfortable doing it.

Or you can just suck it up and learn without. Your legs will be tougher
    then! 🙂

  9. I saw a guy jump rope on a giraffe unicycle. He used some kind of pedal
    clips.

In fact he used the pedal clips on all of his unicycles including
off-road. I never saw him fall with his feet stuck to the pedals.
    Amazing.

Ride everywhere and never just ride anywhere. If you can ride where you
are going within a hour, do it, and if you can do a trick 50-75% of the
time do it along the way.
