  1. Since I am now on a masters team, and eventually will be doing some racing,
    I am wondering...

How can you make your goggles stay on you head when you do a start?

I wont crazy glue or duct tape them there.

If I tighten the strap, it hurts my eyes. Should I just suck it up for the
minute or less that I will be in the water?

Are there goggles that will seal good, stay on my eyes, and wont hurt?

    Thanks

    Micheal

Make sure you drop your head (to shield the goggles from the water) just
before you hit the water. Push them firmly on just before getting on the
    blocks.

I only lose mine in a backstroke start!

No, they all come off or stay on depending on how you dive. You have to
get your arms up along your head and tuck your chin down to your chest.

You have to practice a lot of starts to get it right. Tightening the
strap past the optimum will actually make the problem worse.

I'm not competing these days, but in masters swimming, for short races,
200 or less, I just swim without goggles. For longer races, 1500, I
start in the water from a push. Youth laugh at me, but my goggles stay
on. For 400 races, I wear goggles if I have a good pair that don't come
off, but my starts have never been very good, so I sometimes swim
without goggles even in a 400.

Make sure your goggles are being held on by suction - not just by the
strap. You should be able to push the goggles against your face without
putting on the strap and have them stay.

Positioning of the strap can also be important. For some reason, I have
to position it lower when doing a backstroke start than I would normally.

Goggles with a double strap are more likely to stay on, in my
experience, than goggles with a single strap.
