  1. I am joining the Army in 40 days and I learned there will be a running
test (one mile in 8 minutes). I am not a runner but I need to pass
that test. I would appreciate any help on what to do how to do it and
    in what time frame.
    Thanks for the help.

Also I live next to a mountain in the Northeast with trails from easy
to difficult and back roads in a farming area.

  3. You may want to check out specialtactics.com and use thier forum site. It
may have some helpful info for you.

I'd suggest running shoes. Running shoes will help make the running
more enjoyable while lowering stress. But start out doing about 20
minutes or two miles at a pace you can talk with someone at.
Gradually build a few minutes each run. If you haven't had much
physical stress try starting out at 3 days a week if that gets easy
add a run through the week. Basically start with small mileage and
    gradually build up.

My advise would be to not join the Army. Join the Air Force...they get all
the money. I wouldn't worry too much about the PT test anyway. One mile in
8 minutes won't be very difficult after 8 weeks of Basic Training. Besides
the Army is so desperate for warm bodies these days even if you fail the run
they'll get some Major or Colonel to sign a waver for you.

Hey Vowel man we agree but for different reasons. The Army or Marines
will get him dead if not maimed and psychologically screwed up for the
rest of his life. I'd opt for 4 years and stay alive.

Before this war to solve the social security issue(remove the youth sp
less will need collect later) the army used to recruit with a reasonable
filter. The recruiters are now so desperate to keep fresh bodies flowing
that they close their eyes to those old standards. The enlistment $$$ is
bringing out some very strange people.
