Chris Malcolm said:I was unable to run or ride a bicycle for twelve years after that kind
of back injury, including sneezing laying me on my back in agony for
weeks. But a carefully graded series of exercises did eventually
allow me to heal, or perhaps just to adapt, to the point where I can
now cycle, dance, climb, shift heavy furniture, and backpack.
My messed-up back has been compensated for such that I took up squats
and deadlifts this year, when over a decade ago I declined them out of
fear for my back despite having a much better back back then!
And yeah, I still ride my bike...but nothing is totally carefree like
how it was. That really puts a damper on things...kinda like having a
cheating spouse, I imagine; you're enjoying yourself, but you can
never fully trust....

would be impossible for me ever to recover from these injuries, that
I'd either have to nurse a very fragile and painful back for the rest
of my life, or have a risky operation which might make it worse.
Yeah, that's what my sports doc told me, the Royal Society of
Orthopedic Surgeons Fellow (I'm assuming that means something,
medically). It's shocking how little they seem to understand, and are
able to do!

experience, including the experience of others. Your elbow problem is
a very common one, and a lot is known about it.
They did an MRI and found nothing unusual. But it's a definite
problem, all right! So I'm just [censored] and exasperated. I even
fantasize about taking a gun and shooting my elbow, that's how much I
hate it. It failed me, and I didn't even do anything to it! So I can
only blame "old age," even though I'm only 35 (which is why I'm so
[censored] about injuries; it's not like I'm played foot).
Quoted message said:It sounds to me as
though you're not following the usual advice about how to recover from
such an injury. Any particular reason for that?
I don't know, maybe for the same reason I don't do my salads or my
taxes myself...just an annoyance to deal with it, simple as it is in
theory....
