Assuming Di Luca doesn't finish ahead of him he needs to finish 6th or better to clinch the ProTour title. A big ask at the mo, in his own words he's "running on empty".

What if Cadel doesn't finish +6th, will they be awarding the comp to a banned rider or will it go to the second guy (Evans)?

the title of the article is not correct ("Doping ban for DiLuca"😉 he's not being suspended for a doping offense... he's being suspended because of "collusion" with the doctor... probably hiding his association with him and/or with other riders... as i understand it, the doctor was on a list of doctors that riders were not allowed to use because he had, in the past been caught supplying doping products to riders.

Evans has never showed at Lombardi before but then he's never been particularly motivated there. There is no reason that he shouldn't be able to garner some points-a specialist climber like Simoni has come pretty close in recent years.

I'm pretty sure he ran 4th there 2 or 3 years ago.

in 2004 his final year with Telekom, he made the final selection with Basso and someone else... then Cunego and Noe got back on a descent.

Noe and Evans screwed up, or did not have the legs and finished 4th and 5th, forgot the order.

Cunego won after getting dropped on one of the final climbs.

Forgetting about Di Luca's current situation, he deserves the title over Evans. Evans has one win this year, which came in a meaningless ITT in China. Di Luca has LBL, the Giro, a couple of Giro stages, Milano-Torino, and thirds in two classics. Maybe if Evans could win Lombardy, there might be a case for him deserving the overall--maybe.

not a fan of Evans personally,

but he did finish 2nd in the biggest race, that, technically, should be the second biggest result of the year, bigger than any win.

he came second to vino in the tt, and second in the final tt to LL, who was doped thru his brains. Evans would have something, but not the Disco dope.

he almost hit the podium in the Vuelta.

If he got on the podium in the Vuelta, it would have been a no brainer.

2nd GC Tour, 4th Vuelta, 5th Worlds.

That is a fine season.

Di Luca beat Andy Schleck to win the Giro... yeah, he won Liege, but still.

I think it is pretty even myself. But depends what weight you place on a win.

But Cadel's clean Bro 😉 . Give the Aussie battler a break. Di Luca's on more medications than a bi-polar diabetic with ADD and high blood pressure.😄

no way cadel is clean like no other podium finisher in the last 2 decades

Evans didn't get his points for nothing.

If he ends up with more points than Di luca it suggests he has been more consistent or chose the right races - and would be the deserved winner.

Maybe they could have an award for the rider who wins the most races.

Yeah but he dopes the ole fashioned way....not like the other sophisticated rocket surgeon dopers. :p

Anyway...getting back to the thread. My take is if Cadel wins on points then he wins fair and square. Either that or the points are all weighted wrongly.
