If you're just riding trials, then you don't even need a seat... just
something to hold for your SIF moves.

Wanna go really light? Just put any old seatbase on the seatpost, rip
off the foam and cover and bumpers, and you're ready to ride.

Same way as how you get on the railing... riding SIF.

Reminds me of the old trick question "which weighs more, a pound of gold or a
pound of feathers?". The feathers weigh more, of course, since precious metals
are measured using troy units, and the troy pound is smaller than the regular
pound (though the troy ounce is larger than the regular ounce, there's only 12
of them in a troy pound).

Perhaps more appropriate would be to paraphrase an even older line "what's the
cheapest way to take 5 pounds off your unicycle? go on a diet". πŸ˜‰

I'm sorry my sarcasm wasn't more apparent...but my statement is still
technically accurate, as weight and mass are distinct.

And that old saying partially provided the impetus for my remark. All
the stock seats are essentially the same, apart from the foam and
cover. To really take off any significant weight from the seat, get a
    CF base.

And aluminum or titanium hardware for all the bolts and nuts. The
    steel hardware adds weight.

A carbon fiber base also gets rid of the need for a steel stiffener
    plate in the seat.

If minimum weight is the ultimate concern then choosing a seat that is
only thin foam rather than added gel should also reduce some weight. I
haven't weighed any of the various foam options, but I have to assume
that any that include gel are going to be heavier.
