  1. Everyone knew Rasmussen was doping, no one needed to be told.

not that Contador, Evans, Leipheimer et al were not doing the same stuff.

But I think Rasmussen pushed boundaries risking a Tom Simpson drop dead scenario. You cannot have guys like him, and Dr Dave Bruylandts, defining what the doping outlier is. Fair enough in the 90's, even then we had folks dying.

  4. It's here too:
    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/28092007/58/tour-de-france-rasmussen-doping-scandal-continues.html

at least the guy that won the race is part of the new, young, clean generation and has no murky past or present associations...er, hang on...🙄

  5. Apparently Dynepo isn't the only new EPO drug out there that is difficult or even impossible to detect with current tests.

Seems like the death of the EPO era may have been greatly exaggerated.

the only thing that died was Armstrong's sperm producing ability post chemo

    something I don't understand...
EPO will raise the hematocrit value right? So that means he can only dope up to about 49, or he'll get banned - no matter if it's obtained by an illegal drug, legal drug or by training at altitude...
So how can he be pushing boundaries if he can't go above 50?

and as for the death of cycling? What are ASO going to do for next year? They can't have a 3-peat of scandal ridden races - or can they? Surely the blood passports idea is the only way round this? If a rider was using these undetectable EPO variants, their HCT level would be fluctuating unless they were on it all year round. Right or wrong?

Maybe the 50 limit should be reduced?

  10. Why didn't polyheme.boost tell us all about Dynepo? I thought he had the finger on the pulse?

Yes that would seem the only way forward if they want to avoid the scandals. Zorzoli, Lefevre, Madiot, etc. have all commented that it is obvious from the longitudinal blood controls that certain teams or nations are still playing very dirty. The UCI should institute it's own monthly or even biweekly blood checks where they screen for suspected blood manipulation and suspend suspicious riders until they look "healthy" again. Just like they do with hematocrit.

They should continue the targeted testing of suspicious athletes.

They should institute some sort of mechanism to suspend teams for periods of time if they have suspicious or suspended riders. This will force the teams to conduct their own doping controls and remove the risk of doping solely from the rider.

Or they should just pull out of WADA and go back to the free-for-all doping environment of 5+ years ago.

They use a saline drip to re-thin the blood to bring the level down prior to the morning health check but still gain the benifits of the micro EPO dosing..... so techncally you're a 60 but record 48..... in the kit back is cycling shoes, knicks, allen keys, a pump, a few tubes and a hemocrit reader... no rider leaves home without it...

it's still valuable... Tyler Hamilton's Hematocrit was about 35-37 off season but in the spring it went up to 49.9.. over the couse of a TdF it can drop 10 points just from the riding... so having an undetectable EPO product is still incredibly valuable... combine that with agents that carry oxygen in plasma and you are really in business... no one wants to be caught carrying blood bags around with them any more... evidence vino...

cycling news is reporting that there have been 10 case detected so i wonder who the other 10 riders are and why the UCI is dragging their feet on this on... they've been able to detect it for a year now.. .guess they need a rock solid test that they can defend in court..

    Correct

  15. Rabobank does not want to comment todays Dynepo story:
    cyclingheroes.infoid977.html

  16. Not to sure that is true.

Rabo bank could have easily have just put their hands in the air and said ... SO WHAT ..innocent until proven guilty and protected their man.

M.Richards could have received a phone call from Rabobank saying say anything and we will get our corporate lawyers to destroy you. They could also have said a similar thing to the Italian tv presenter.

Something very murky happened this year at the Tour and a man was hung out to dry. One thing for sure is that it certainly wasnt just because he was on dope.

It could not possibly be that everyone knew Ras was doped to the moon and they wanted to get rid of him. Missing out of comp tests, lying about his whereabouts, synthetic EPO in his urine. What more do you want?

Would a story about Ras being caught boinking his team manager's wife be more believable than the simpler explanation above?
