    Powerline Pass Trail Race 2007

    Date: 9/22/2007 10am
Route: Indian to Upper Huffman Parking (Anchorage, AK)
Distance: about 13 mi, about 3700 ft of up, 2200ft of down
Benefit: University of Alaska Ski Team

Summary: Sun, fall colors, Denali, Bullwinkles, no Yogis, hills – what
more could a person want in a trail race.🙂

Note that I’ve got waypoints (F01, F02, etc) on the map and profile that
correspond to locations of pictures. I didn’t take many pictures on the
uphill this year since I had taken a bunch last year:

    Nice pics, Dot.

I remember running down to the Powerline Pass trail from the parking lot
of Flattop Mountain last year. There had been some recent bear sightings
in the area, so I didn't dare to venture too far 🙂

In the distance, I see another gradual hill, which I wasn't sure if it
was on my route or not. Yep, it was. But once I crested that, I think I
ran the rest of the way, pushing to best of my ability, recognizing that
2+ mi is close to half hour for me, and trail quality degraded a little,
but not too much. After that when we turned on the gas line, we were
back to dirt and some goopy mud for a while, then we turned off that
onto another good gravel trail and up a small hill to the finish in
    4:08:41.

    Congrats on a good race.
Looks like you made your goal.

    Kudos to RD Trond Flagstad.

Is he the same guy that finished in the top-3 at last year's Mt.Marathon
    race?

Next up: Recovery (post-season) and think about next iteration of
training. Leaving orthotics to get recovered, donating blood, and a
couple days of rain make a few recovery days easy to deal with.

    Enjoy your recovery.

Good luck with the training. I hear it's already getting down into the
    30's up there.

    Thanks for the nice report.

Yep, that's one reason why I've been hesitant to run that trail alone,
esp. in early summer. A lot of bears inhabit that general part of
Anchorage - where large-lot homes abut the state park.

Yes. He's finished 2nd a couple times - and placed high in several other
running races - either mtn or Tues night. I think it was a couple years
ago when he was just behind the leader, lost his footing on the down,
rolled into first place, but fell back to 2nd by the time he was back on
    feet.
