Floyd Landis lost his expensive and explosive doping case Thursday when
arbitrators upheld the results of a test that showed the 2006 Tour de
France champion used synthetic testosterone to fuel his spectacular
comeback victory, The Associated Press has learned.

The decision, handed down nearly four months after a bizarre and
bitterly fought hearing, leaves Landis with only one more outlet to
possibly salvage his title =3F an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for
Sport.

According to documents obtained by AP, and to be made public later
Thursday, the vote was 2-1 to uphold the results, with lead arbitrator
Patrice Brunet and Richard McLaren in the majority and Christopher
Campbell dissenting.

The decision means Landis, who repeatedly has denied using performance-
enhancing drugs, must forfeit his Tour de France title and is subject to
a two-year ban, retroactive to January 30, 2007.

At long last, why not make it start on July 27th, 2006 or whenever the
B-Sample came in as "non-negative" ?

I can't believe they slam the lab for being totally flawed, yet find
Landis guilty. Kangaroo Court..
Just proves the system is broken beyond any chance of having
credibility. Landis may very well be guilty, but so is the lab, and
that should've been enough to throw this out.

The retroactive date knocks him out of the 2008 TDF. An earlier date
would have the same effect. He can still compete in 2009.

In particular, I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that the
chain of custody was improper and still find him guilty. IOW, it
doesn't matter that we don't know whether the sample was tampered with
or not: the sample was positive and we hold Landis guilty. It's
practically an admission that they will use trumped up evidence if
that's what they're given.
