The 959s are significantly better than 747/858 vintage SPDs.

I notice a difference every time I ride my pig bike which has 646 platform style pedals using the
older style pedal body.

Hopefully the 647 platforms will become available soon.

Thanks, but I'm not looking to change cleats; I have SPD pedals on my other bike as well.

Is just this in mud conditions (which I can't comment on)? Otherwise, I find clipping in and out of
the 747s just the same as the 959s, and the 747s have wrench flats.

Nope. In all conditions for me.

There is more drag when compared to the 959 body.

Yep, just in mud.

I notice a difference all the time but a significant difference in mud (of which we have plenty
right now). Clipping in and out is much the same, I have a mix on my bikes and have no concerns
about moving from bike to bike or shoe to shoe.

If you have mud issues I would say its worth the change.
