Near (South London) Oval Underground station the ASL on the Southbound section of the Kennington Road, at the set of traffic lights before the Camberwell Rd and Harleyford Street lights, stops at the cycle lane right edge white line rather than continue (as I would first expect) right up to the curb.
Is this just sloppy marking, or does the "motor car/bike exclusion zone" actually extend into the six sided perimeter of the combined cycle lane and motor exclusion zone (i.e. a sort of "b" shape), giving in effect a two stage ASL?

It sounds like sloppy marking and reading of the instructions. i.e. they have read that the first line should not protrude into the cycle lane, and they assumed the same was true for the second.
However sometimes you do get staggered stop lines and traffic lights, depending upon junction design.

I think it's just sloppy marking. There is another case at the junction of Camberwell New Road and Kennington Lane outside St Marks Church where there is no ASL the cycle lane is only one metre wide and hugs the kerb so it leads round the corner and the stop line does not extend into it.
The light sequence at that junction is an accident waiting to happen too. The right turns off Kennington Lane have separate lights and they go before the straight ahead and it is regular occurence for the straight ahead traffic to jump the lights. -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"

I live round the corner and have a microlight. No, seriously, go to http://local.live.com and zoom in to where you want to be. Built up areas have the bird's eye view. Click on the icon with the buildings below the map icon and you get an oblique aerial view. You can then look at it from different directions using the compass. To share a use the view menu. view > view permalink.
