The aftermath resulted in many interesting comments at the LBS from the service guys when the thing
did not want to come out.

"You hold the bike and we will twist" "Let me get a hammer" "I need a bigger pair channel locks" "We
are going to have to take this in the back" "It is a good thing this is under warranty" "We could
take a dremel to it" "We have all the service guys working on it" "We are making some progress with
    a hacksaw blade down the..."

Oh, man! I'm not sure if I'm glad I passed (early/long drive for an aborted ride), or wish I had
    witnessed that!

Hehehe...pretty good editing job to make that six foot drop look like a curb stone. ;^) Nice looking
    Spider BTW.

Mike - I'd replace it with a Thomson.

Well, at least you were able to put it back on. Could've been a long ride back.

My Thomson has never done that! at least you were able to shove it back on and get back home. it
might have been a much more painful ride if you had to stand for the rest of it!

    How old was that seatpost?

It is only seven months old. The post was tight in the seat tube from the beginning so I had to
really had to yank back and forth on the seat to move the post. It looked like the epoxy bonding the
clamp to the post let go versus the carbon itself breaking.

I got a Easton EA50 in there for now (on sale for $25), while I wait for the replacement EC70.
Almost bought a Thomson yesterday, but since the EC70 is a free replacement I'll give it another
shot. I think now that the tightness issue with the post/tube has been fixed I will not have to
twist and hank on the seat so much to adjust it which I think is what weakened the bond enough for
my fat ass to break it loose.

I was thinking about an EC70 - Not any more! Thanks Bill. Thomson it is!

Fair enough, but if that second post goes get the Thomson. You may loose an inch or so of setback
but they're truly Tough as Hell. I've crash tested three of them downhilling and all my friends
run them. I've seen big DH seats bend (which I don't run) and wrench at them but the post held
    tight and true.

    Impressive!

It looks like you ditched the lipstick.

    Congrats!

(ditched my Easton because it was under-spec and always slipped)

You're lucky you avoided the dreaded seatpostrectalectomy.

Yep, that was my inaugural ride with the setup as I had just put it all together the night before.
You will notice it is a near-replica of your previous setup.
    mountainbikebill.comHelmetCam Finished 1.JPG

X-jacket, Sony PC-9, and some fishing sinkers for a counter weight. Hate to be a labeled a copy cat,
but I believe it to be about as good of a setup as one can do, short of a custom full face helmet
which would not be fun for my typical XC riding in sunny SoCal . It still needs a little dremel nip
and tuck action to get the rear angle going. A much different feel riding with it. The neck muscles
are going to need some beefing up!

Bill got the bike complete back in May, I believe. The post certainly isn't old, by most
    standards.

    Aye...it's just a scratch! ;^) Ahem...ummm...yeah...that's it. I realize nothing is indestructable,
but I've seen a lot of Thomson posts take some serious abuse without trouble. This one still looked
like it may hold a seat but I couldn't see the clamp area in the pic.

Mike - at least it didn't have any meat hanging from it. :^p

Wow, it's really going to be tough to sell that whole "I droped off the back of a moving flatbed
and trannied to the hood of a following Datsun" in your ride report later. Maybe you can fix it
    in editing.
