  1. Ok here is my reasoning the chain lasts longer when the front and rear cogs are aligned and when the
    largest cogs for a given gear ratio are used. If you are using a 30 tooth inner cog now there may be
    room for a 20 tooth cog without using a longer bottom bracket. Notice the 20 tooth cog will be
    better aligned with your large rear cog. The romp family used a sugino maxy with three 110mm
    chainrings and a microadapter for a forth chainring on their tour across the USA on a quad
