Indoor Trainer

Hi Paul,

This is going to get into the realm of whatever suits you best. There are so many different brands and resistance units to choose from. The big thing these days seems to be the fluid trainers. If money was no object, I would opt for a Travel Trac Real Axiom V3 Trainer with the programmable courses and their 2 DVDs with real world courses.

On the low end, Ascent and Minoura both make some very find Mag trainers. You can also pick up some good ones cheaply on eBay. You will definitely want to do your homework before you buy though.

I use rollers exclusively now. They do take a bit more room, but they slip easily behind the couch in the rec room, and for awhile I just stood them up and leaned them against the wall in the garage. What ever you decide to do, you will want to get a mat to go under your rear wheel to catch all of the tire dust. You might also get a block to set the front wheel on so that it doesn't feel like you are always riding downhill when you are on the trainer.

If you search around a bit, you'll find the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine is probably the most highly regarded fluid trainer around.

I bought one after reading all the positive recommendations. It's pretty good - the worst thing is staying motivated to ride the damn thing in the winter months.

I see that REI has quite a few..I am looking for the type that just elevates your rear wheel ( Takes up less space ) there seem quite a few to choose from. I am looking more for high quality than low price..a good deal is always nice but generally you get what you pay for. Thanks! Paul

So back to: "...if money were no option..."

This does look like a very cool system, though. Probably made better on a 100" screen in the theater room!😎 More power to ya.

Not really. My computer has a 17 inch monitor. I don't pay much attention to the screen except periodically during the ride and post ride analysis. The computer graphics are only so so. I really enjoy the ergo mode and do not even bother with the computer at times. I also have a couple of friends with Computrainers and on a cold winter day we will link them and have a good ride!
