Hi all, I have a quick question and would love a wheelset recommendation as well.
Over the past 5 weeks I have had one broken spoke and the need to true my wheel -- primarily the rear wheel -- a total of four times. So am I at the end for these wheels soon?
If so I want to get a fairly nice set of replacement wheels. I have been saving for a long time for my next bike and want to get a decent, stiff, reliable wheelset if I need to buy a replacement now for my current ride, so I am looking for recommendations. I am not a racer, I do three centuries a year or so, but train pretty consistently on my local hills. I am a heavier rider for right now (190lbs; 86kg) but will eventually be down to a weight of 175lbs or so. I am looking for a nice solid set of wheels that will run me $400-$600. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have a set of Fulcrum 5's that I really like. I bought them to train and race on with the idea that I could ride them in all kinds of conditions/weather without worrying about them. Another wheel that seems very popular around Vancouver is the Campy Khamsin. I've had a lot of requests to measure a set and finally got around to it this last weekend. They are a very good performance for the price and have a construction that suggests they will hold up to some heavy riding. Both of those choices should be under your budget, too!
