beginner help?

  1. I began riding(road bike) about 2 months ago, and after about a week getting used to it, I've been riding 4-6 days a week, 10-20 miles per ride. I'm riding with about medium intensity, mostly for the reason of shedding a few pounds.

    I'm wondering, how many miles per day is a decent average? I really know nothing about biking so I'm a bit in the dark about average distances, times, etc.

    Though I really enjoy biking, I just don't have the time to go for 20 mile rides that take an hour and a half out of my day. So, basically, I'm asking how many miles per day/week is a decent amount for someone trying to get healthy?

    I know even riding a little is better than not at all...but I'm thinking more like I know water is good for me, but I'm not going to feel the benefits if I only have
    4 oz. a day.

  2. Typically for a beginner, actual time on the bike is your best training aid. To make the most of limited time, you might want to research interval training. Here are a few articles after performing a quick google search:
