Over the past 3-4 years I have observed a low carb diet to control my
weight. One thing I have grown especially fond of is a shake with
protein powder. I have found that frozen bananas make this a
wonderful shake. It ends up being thick almost as if it is filled
with ice cream. However, too many bananas introduces too many carbs
into the shake. What are other things I can put in the shake to make
it thick? I have also put ice cubes in it but it turns into a
snowball. Any ideas will be appreciated.

yogurt instead of milk thickens it.Susan

I have found that, if a low carb shake includes raw egg, that leaving it
chilled in the refrigerator overnight leads to thickening.I didn't know you had a lisp! ;-)

LESS bananas or ice.
I have one of those Bullet blenders and using the large cup, I USED to put
in half a banana, 1-2 scoops Designer Whey, Hoods LC milk and ice. Lately,
I've done the cut-up, frozen banana chunks, replacing the ice. if I want
more fruit I add chunks of frozen Mango (Trader Joe's).I've also pureed lc fruit like blueberries, Raspberries and Strawberries and
freeze in a small-ish ice cube tray to make usable chunks.I'd also like to hear about the coconut cream. I just saw a recipe on some
food show where the chef used "CREAM of coconut milk"....Steve

content - regular coconut milk (not that "lite" stuff) is about 17%
fat, while coconut cream is 24% fat or more.Coconut cream is sold under various brand names and can usually be
found at Asian markets. I've got a container of Kara brand natural
coconut cream in my cupboard. If you can't find coconut cream, you can use regular coconut milk as
the cream does rise to the top and can be scooped off.HTH,

thickens them to some degree. Sometimes I use ice, but it depends on
the shake. My strawberry shakes are made with frozen strawberries, which takes care
of flavor, sweetener, thickening and ice all together. Just water,
strawberries, protein powder and a bit of cream. My favorite is a mocha shake made with cold brewed coffee, cocoa,
protein powder, cream, sweetener and some lecithin to emulsify. -

I make shakes from tofu and LC milk, which u can make as thick as u
like by varying the proportions. I'm sure you could use tofu with
protein powder, etc as well -
