What is the difference between HG-40 and HG-50 series and above in chains and cassettes?
The life? The look? The quality? The performance? The weight?
Anyone out there who can explain the differences?

This is also an area where bike manufacturers often cut costs as a lot of buyers don't look closely at these parts.
You will often see HG50 cassettes and chains, which are about Deore or Tiagra level on bikes specced with XT or LX everywhere else.
As you go up in levels the chains get stronger and look better and cost more and cassettes last longer, get lighter, look better and cost more.
I buy HG73 LX or HG93 XT as I believe the extra life is worth the extra dollars.
