hand from rare and imported components (probably made from unobtanium)

There's something about the Eddy Merckx Motorola frames as modelled on
Sean Yates's page http://www.seanyates.co.uk/ that is just perfect to
me. Has to have the deep alu rim as in the pic. BTW I'd forgotten how
low he had his brake hoods.

I used to like the handlebar shape Tony Doyle used to have a much more
curvy drop style - classic and you could spot him head on by the shape
of his bars.

Could be - the curve into the top of the drop was much more, well ...
curvy, so you would get much better wrist clearance. It used to look
like the curve simply started earlier. I always thought there was
something rather, I don't know, organic about that shape and I remember
wanting to get bars like that, but never saw any for sale anywhere.

When I was a kid, my mate's dad used to take us to Herne Hill and we
also went to the Skol 6. Doyle was a good sprinter and you could spot
him easily in the pack just from his bar shape. He still had these
distinctive bars in the 80's on channel four's "City Centre Cycling".

Well - there's a difference between best looking and most desirable...
If you just consider the looks, the luxuary Storck Bicycles look fairly
well designed:
