  1. I have just been diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and have scaring in my lungs.
Has anyone in this news group have this? I was in training for Chicago but
    all is on hold.

I too am afflicted. Try smoking 3 packs a day, "smoke two joints
before you smoke two joints, then you smoke two more", and cut back on
    your crack intake.

Sarcoidosis can occur in many organs. You don't say what you have or
how bad the symptoms are. I presume that you had shortness of breath
from lung granulomas. Follow your doctors advice. I presume you are
taking steroids for the condition. They don't really know the cause of
it. Strange that it prefers non smokers though. I'd be more concerned
with the side effects of the medication myself. If I could run, I'd
run if the doctor was not totally opposed to it.

I'd wonder if the scarring is increased with hard breathing. Is there any
data indicating that aerobic exercise (deep breathing) makes it worse?

Do the symptoms impair your running? How did you find out you had it?

No, that would be too easy if a poster provided any information that
    would help with an answer.
We prefer to guess. That way we can't really be wrong. Questions like,
"What do you folks know about shoes?" are the best. Or, "I have a
    pain. What could it be?"

:-) That kind of vagueness is probably due to inexperience. If the follow
up post is calculated and cagey, the troll bell rings.

  7. I had a biopsy last Friday, results in this Friday.
I went to my Dr complaining of chest pain and a wheeze. I was sent to ER
were they did a CT SCAN. My runs were becoming harder as the temps and
pollution levels increase in the summer. I use an inhaler for this but ran
out a few weeks back. I only used the inhaler in the hottest days of the
    summer.
I'm not running at the moment, right lung and my neck is sore. I'm tired and
very board as I can't play my volleyball, lift weights or swim. It hurts to
take a deep breath. Sucks to be me at the moment.

You answered your own post. You have much bigger fish to fry than the
Chicago Marathon. Let reality take hold and change your sights. When
one door closes, another opens. This is easier to accept when you know
you had nothing to do with it and have done your best. Keep trying to
get some basic exercise like you are doing. The steroids might work
well for you and you can move on. The sense of accomplishment will be
great when you do. You have nothing to gain by pushing a run at this
    point.

  9. Thanks, that is the way I plan.
