Last week I joined me and my SO up to Bicycle NSW (though I'm yet to smash anything with my bicycle, the insurance cant hurt in this ever litigious society plus you get a magazine subscription!) I got an automated receipt thingy from the payment system but an ominous silence from Bicycle NSW. I sent them an email asking if I should get a PDS for the insurance policy or at least some kind of membership number, but I gots nada.
Is this normal? Will they ignore my emails and something will just show up in the letterbox to confirm my membership or have they taken my money and done a runner?

I didn't get a number either. I think I ended up ringing them...
The info for the policy is available through the website though.
In golfing terms, that is about par for the course.
In swimming terms, don't hold your breath.

Seems to be the case with a lot of organisations such as these. Oh well, so long as my magazine shows up ;-)
When I joined a card showed up in the mail a few weeks (?) later. It has my member number that I need should I do anything stupid. And yes, the mag showed up and is still arriving on schedule.

Try dealing with Superannuation companies. Any new employees ask me to recommend a Super company, I tell them Virgin. A person answers the phone within a few rings, and _that_ person can handle your query. How quaint is that?

I rang them a few weeks ago, as my membership card hasn't turned up yet. You always get to speak to a real person (the office only holds a few people, at least it did when I visited it in the Sydney CBD. Now they've moved out I haven't been there).
Flashing the card at some bike shops gets you discounts.
