Looking for Sweat Ban

<< Can anyone give me a lead on finding a head sweat ban that I could wear under the helmet that

There may be some "dissent" about my suggestions, but here they are: 1-remove foam pads from the
forehead area of helmet to improve airflow 2-cotton cyling cap worn backwards under the helmet
absorb perspiration 3-apply Chapstick to eyebrows to redirect sweat drips around the eyes

Regular maxipads work great. Remove helmet forehead pad. Get one without wings and not of the same
brand as any female members of the household use, to avoid accusations of theft. Too-thick-at-first
comes out right in a few miles.

They've spent a zillion dollars on these things to get them to work right; the helmet company on the
other hand has spent zero on sponge design.

One is good for a couple of weeks of daily commuting. If it doesn't last, get a thicker one.
They hold a ton of sweat and dry out between rides, pretty much. You can carry a discreet spare
in any case.

I got a sweat band that is made out of some fancy cool-max material. It's little more than a rag you
tie like a bandanna (though it is only a band, it does not cover the head). It takes up very little
space between you and your helmet, so is quite comfortable. And it is by far the best sweat band I
have ever had. The material wicks away the sweat, and it evaporates quickly.

I got it at a local shop. It had a Trek logo on it. No idea who really makes it.

Try a sporting goods store, in the tennis stuff. I've seen them with an elastic band for the sides
and back, and a multilayer terrycloth band across the front. I doubt that you'll find one that can
*redirect* the sweat, but these will absorb quite a lot of it and provide a place for wind action to
dehydrate a lot of what collects.

Also, a tampon in each ear will cut down that annoying wind noise and keep the ear canal
clean and dry.

Go to Mountain equipment Co-op... You are in Canada...remember??? mec.ca will get you to their
cycling section... There is a piece of kit there that covers the ears as well... Ontario right now
does not seem to be the place to be flying down hills.. Good luck..

Dear Russell,

Those colorful, overpriced skull-caps that tie with three tails in the back are actually sewn to
exactly the kind of stretchy cotton head band that you want and keep the sweat out of your eyes.
Performance and Nashbar sell them.

They even fit nicely under a helmet and improve cooling, though you wouldn't think so at first. What
you end up with is a large damp cloth on your head, constantly cooling as the sweat evaporates in
the breeze. Without it, most of your sweat drips off to cool your frame or the pavement.

Because the salt stays behind when the sweat evaporates, it's a good idea to rinse the silly things
out after each ride. Otherwise, you put on a scratchy, salty skull-cap the next day.

I won't descend to the level of quibbling about spelling, partly because I've been beaten to it and
partly because "dissenting" is a classic that rivals the "whaling" wall in a long-lost freshman
essay that conjured up images of Ahab looking for Moby [censored] in Jerusalem.

Pretty much any headband that isn't saturated will keep sweat out of your eyes. I got some that work
well at headsweats.comheadsweats.comOpen ↗. They are made of coolmax. They also sell cycling caps and other
"perspiration technology" items.

I sweat like a mad man... mostly from my head. I've tried every suggestion I could find (except
those involving feminine hygiene products... just couldn't do that 🙂. I tried the Halo headbands
(with the little rubber thingy that is supposed to redirect the sweat away from your eyes)... in
fact just about every kind of headband. I've tried lip balm, etc.

The ONLY thing that works reasonably well for me are the coolmax skullcaps. I take two with me on
rides over 1 1/2 hours... one on the head and a spare to switch out when the first one becomes so
drenched it acts like I just pulled it out of a bucket of sweat.

I find these things and their clones to be excellent products. Cotton gets soaked and uncomfortable.
The Coolmax and other synthetic fabrics make my head cooler on hot days and warmer on cold days.

If someone is really cheap, I imagine you could simply cut one from an old, throw-away
synthetic jersey.
