  1. with all the positive results coming forth, i have to wonder if the tests have somehow improved and become more sensitive. its not like these guys just started to dope. they have probably been doping for years. and its not like all of a sudden a high percentage of them have just become sloppy, stupid, etc. anyone have the scoop, a newslink, anything?

on the other hand, if we accept that the tests have improved and the riders being caught are on the older doping programs, then riders like chicken are once again a step ahead of even the most, new and improved tests. clearly he is suspicious yet has passed all, what was it, 17 tests throughout the tour? is this another case of money matters?

    thoughts?

I cant say much about the current tests being used. As for the chicken I think it is very well possible that he was actually dope free during the tour so could not be tested positive. But he surely was doped up during his preparation/training schedule prior to the tour.

  3. Yeah...I was having a rather in depth conversation with a policeman today as my Bike was stolen. It was an expensive bike with an expensive lock and I don't expect to get it back.

Anyhow, the policeman said that there is a criminal element that is always one step ahead of both the law and security and there always will be. The same philosophy holds true here, I figure. The big teams with the big money have the most exensive drugs that the tests don't test for just yet. That is why it requires big money team with an in house drug program to stay clean (unless of course you are actually clean of course...). My theory is that the guys who got busted nowadays are doing this outside of their team and are relying in cruder methods.

Ironically, this is why I think T-Mobile is probably a clean team b/c they are a historic team with presumably big money and if they had an in house drug program, there is no way that their boy would get busted.

Maybe my logic is flawed, I"m no expert. The Vino thing is a mystery to me though, I don't know how the hell he got pinched.

  4. The tests have not improved. The UCI is being smarter about using them. They are targeting athletes they think are doping and then timing the tests for when they have the greatest chance of catching them.

It looks like the testosterone positives are due to the CIR/IRMS test being used instead of first screening with the T:E ratio. If the UCI and Tour really wanted to catch a lot of riders they would have tested every rider on the morning of the second day in the Alps or the Pyrenees. If they used the CIR test for exogenous testosterone I am sure they would have caught a boatload of riders.

I think Vino was caught because he had bad information about whether the LNDD could test for homologous blood doping.

I agree with you, but he also passed a dope test in June according to UCI's McQuaid.

  6. Money always matters.

The tests are NOT better, the cover up and fixes are less effective now.

    Tour media help has disentigrated.

    Alberto Condador should be worried.

Concede defeat to Evans. Save Lance's Nike sneaker sales.

I share this cynical opinion. The tests aren't better, they're just not ignoring the results. My guess is that there have been plenty of positives in the past that have been quietly overlooked or quickly fixed with a little hush-hush medical slip.

    Realism is not cynical.

Lance Pharmstrong is a drug cheat.

  9. Surely the tests ARE better. They will always get better and the riders will always try new tricks. Sometimes the tests catch up faster than they thought and then they go from a 1+ min time trial win back to Kazakstan to take part in the running of the Jews.

Why then do they not perform the IRMS 'T' test straight away?

It was a game designed for TV spin control.
