  1. I have been growing my own fruits and vegetables for years with soil.
I just over the past 6 monthes started to grow a few things like
strawberries and tomatoes using hydroponics, and Im now [censored] that I
never knew about it before. Not only did I yeild much better and more
abundant crops, but it is such less maintanace and so much cleaner.
Hydroponics uses no soil so you don't have to deal with all the bugs,
pests and all the elements that you find in soil. I have a blog with
an article on hydroponics which I will be updating if you want to
    check it out http://abouthydroponicgardening.blogspot.com/.
But bottem line, I wouldnt even mess with soil ever again...there's no
point. This is just so much better in so many ways
    -Cheers

That's why all the pot grow operations use hydroponics. Of course, the down
side is that the local cops are probably watching the place and will bust
down your doors to see what you are growing. :-)

Why do you choose to hyrdropono-size indoors; can it be done outdoors as
    well?

Cripes, we had our swimming pool removed and started to reorganize the space
into some sort of gardening in boxes. So far DH has built the boxes, hauled
soil, etc. but we will have to put the fence up again, I suppose to keep out
the critters. A few basil plants and cherry tomatoes is basically all we
have to show for this summer. I think the ground hog chew up most of the
    tomatoes. I'm sick of it.

There are a number of hydroponic operations in local greenhouses. They
have a much longer growing season that way. The pot grow ups like to
operate indoors so that nosy neighbours and the cops don't know what is
    going on.

We don't have nosey neighbors -- but there are low-flying one-engine planes
flying over. Since we live in the country and have a few acres surrounded
by trees, it makes me wonder what they're up to. ;-))

We have a groundhog friend living in a shed. Fat, of course. He dines
during the day without fear. (This morning we had two turkeys.) We could
have a freezer full of meat if we chose. Deer are getting good sized
    antlers now.

However, I am intrigued by "low hotwires."
