jetsam to a COOKING newsgroup?
I don't know which posters it has run off. We have more new (and
assinine) posters than ever, especially since school let out. You
don't have to read his posts. You seem to be in a mood lately; are
you okay?
Oh the list is enormous. Kay Hartman, Rich Tester, Mimi Hiller,
Shakier, CharlieLiam, Leila, Renee Mueller, and many, many
others....
Most of them left long before Andy ever started posting here. I did see a
post or two from Kay just a few of weeks ago. So your argument against Andy
running them off isn't valid. And Leila shows up every once in a while to
reassert her claim to my Scottish grandmother's Chelsea Bird china 🙂 (She
does have first claim! And we share the same birthday.)
Quoted message said:many having voiced frustration over the increasing [censored]
posted here. Andy posts 9 [censored] messages/topics to 1 appropriate one.
He is hardly the sole cause but he does his best to add to the [censored].
We had had so many incredible resourceful and interesting people here
yet none of the above list seemed to feel a need to abuse the
hospitality of this group by using it to serve their own "lonely for
attention because I have no life" needs.
So, your life is so terribly fulfilling you never feel the just have a
conversation with someone that isn't constantly about food? I know what
this newsgroup is about. But sometimes people just want to talk. So say
hey, let's email instead. Don't jump down someone's throat.
Please understand, I'm not trying to attack you. But there's something
going on with you You jumped all over me in chat the other night about how
can John possibly make a living selling his paintings? He's done so for 35
years; what would you know about it? That irritated the [censored] out of me.
Two years ago at that same show he made $42,000 in 3 days. So what if he
only sold one painting this year? Just means he won't go back to the show.
But you were jumping all over the price of gas and stuff totally irrelevant
to you. It wasn't YOUR money he was spending to get there so why do you
care?
I moved the chat conversation to some of the lovely meals we've enjoyed
together with his repeat patrons. That got us past the presumptiousness of
your saying things like that to me. And you're entitled to your opinion but
I don't have to agree with it. How he earns his living after 35 years is
really not your concern.
Quoted message said:How many other interesting
new people read the group and give up on it because it is unpleasant
to have to wade through 3/4 schlock to get to the 1/4 appropriate
stuff? WHY is sunscreen posted to a cooking newsgroup? Explain your
acceptance for it?
I frankly don't care if it's about sunscreen or [censored] about ISLAM. I either
choose to respond to it or I don't. I ignore one poster whom I normally
really liked because he won't stop replying to and including rfc
cross-postings. It only encourages the [censored]. But I have to say, at
least Andy isn't involving every newsgroup on the planet.
Quoted message said:Even Barb Schaller is posting *less* these days I noticed, and we've
personally spoken about this growing problem. Her filter list is
longer than mine, but that doesn't fix a problem, that just avoids
addressing it. I'd hate to think of her and many others just adding
to the list of folks who drop off the face of RFC.....
Well I don't know about you, but Barb still replies to my occasional joking
posts in response to hers because we've known each other a long time. I'm
not a jam/jelly maker but I enjoy reading her stuff. She's busy. She's got
company. Trying out tri-tip (crock-potted, in the end). Heck, she even
said she got some gin in response to the Sapphire gin thread and she's
admittedly not a drinker. She's not gone. She's busy.
Perhaps she has said she doesn't like some of these posts. Perhaps she
posts less. But again, she's busy. She doesn't [censored] about them. She goes
quietly about her business and posts when she wants to and we all still have
some fun and many helpful exchanges with her. And I still content she'd
planned all along to get herself locked in that store after closing to clean
them out 🙂 See what I mean? Why must everything be so damned serious?
