Friday morning.

No one is coming with me, and I am not stopping to visit anyone on the
way this time. I am anxious to get home...so I will be bookin' down
that road!!

Going home the same way I came...I-64 over to I-81, then down to
I-40..then straight across to Albuquerque.

The plan for now, is to spend the first night in Nashville. I think I
am going to try for breakfast the next morning at the Loveless Cafe,
which is a Southern classic.

Then on to Oklahoma City for the next night.. I will again go through
Memphis, but at the most will only stop to shop at Penzeys...if I do
that at all....

Not sure where I will be eating for the rest of the trip...I am
perusing www.roadfood.com to see where I want to eat.

Small chain just here in the Columbia area 12 resturaunts.
THEY claim to serve homecooked southern food as well.. This would be
true if (at home) you deep-fat-fried your frozen batterdipped okra and
squash. (rather than pan frying you floured okra/squash)
Also at home you MUST dump 90% of your food out of a can..
on the other hand.. They DO have pole beans properly seasoned and they
fix a decent breakfast..
If this were "real" southern food.. we'd all be skinny...

Regardless, I am probably going to stop there, at least to see for
myself. If's it's changed, it's changed. Nothing I can do about it.
I never ate there before, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I
think Roadfood suggests that the change of ownership hasn't made that
significant a difference.

I will probably stop at lots of places that people will say aren't as
good as they used to be, or whatever. That indeed may be the case,
but I will take my chances, and probably still enjoy what I eat.

I was surprised when I looked at the site that it didn't list my
all time favorite road food place. Country Deli in Brattleboro, VT
right off 91. They have great food there, it is a must stop on the way

Most of the time I stopped at supermarkets or truck stop food shops;
saved a lot of money and time that way but that isn't for everyone. And
I did get asked 'So what sort of rig are you driving' at one truck stop
outside Bartlesville (bad accident up ahead so I pulled off to wait it
out). The 'real' truck driver laughed when I pointed out the ancient
Volkswagen visible in the lot.

I will have some food with me, for when I stop for the night. Just in
case it is pretty late, and if I don't feel like going out to get
something. I generally stay in extended stay type places, where there

to bring back.

And on Thursday morning, after getting off work, I am heading to the
little produce market that had such nice southern produce, to get some
fresh butter beans, and some pole beans, the kind that are really
thick and need a longer cooking time. That plus some more slab bacon.
That stuff is sooooooooooo good!! I am hoping the pole beans and
butter beans hold up in my little cooler: it does keep things nice and
cold for several days, so it may work.
