You know that spinach dip made with sour cream, mayonnaise, dried vegetable soup mix, frozen chopped spinach (thawed and squeezed) and maybe some chopped water chestnuts?
How would it work to substitute yogurt for the sour cream? Does the mayo contribute enough fat to cover up the missing cream? I have some really thick 2% unflavored yogurt, and I'm thinking about trying it if nobody stops me...

Can't hurt...
If it appeals to your taste buds, go for it!
I'd try a small batch first. :-) -- Peace, Om

Wow, another item to add to my trashy ingredients list, dried vegetable soup mix.

Whether I am a jerk has nothing to do with your use of "dried vegetable soup mix."

Whether I am a jerk has nothing to do with your use of "dried vegetable soup mix."
But it has a LOT to do with your obnoxious attitude.
BTW - I didn't use dried vegetable soup mix, the original poster did.

Nope - never heard of it.

I've never seen it a restaurant. I have seen it for sale at mediocre delis.

Do it! I've always regarded the two as interchangeable for baking and cooking. But then, I'm kind of a heathen about some things.
A heathen, eh? I tend to be more of a philistine. Cheers. ;-)

Drain the yogurt, it will then have somewhat the consistency of cream cheese. Then it should work fine in the dip...
I put yogurt into a doubled drip coffee filter, this is placed over a strainer or sieve and then into a bowl. The excess liquid (about 50% of the yogurt's volume) takes a coupla hours to drain out, more often than not I simply leave it out on the counter overnight...or you can place it in the fridge to drain.
I use this "yogurt cheese" a lot for dips and such, it's tasty and also low - fat...
Whether I am a jerk has nothing to do with your use of "dried vegetable soup mix."

What is it that is so abhorrent to you about the recipe? Dried vegetables? The seasoning? The very idea of a dip?
I remember the first time I ever saw one of those spinach boats. It looked disgusting. It was sitting on a table at a platter with a lot of other party foods. People were chowing down on the other things, but nobody seemed to want to try the spinach dip. I gave it a try and I was amazed at how good it was. The people I was talking to tried it and like it. In a few minutes it was gone.

Bob, I've substituted yogurt for sour cream many times. Your dip recipe should be just fine using yogurt.

Have you thought about using fat free sour cream instead?

It'll probably be a little zingier.... which isn't a bad thing for spinach dip.

In the upper right hand corner you can punch in "Spinach Dip" and it will spit out the 28 restaurants in Austin that have it on the menu. And then under eat hit, "Display Menu Items" will show you the restaurants description (and usually the price) of the item.
It a very handy site for seeing menus. The menu items are stored in a searchable database. I browse it every once in w hile just for dinner inspiration - things to cook at home.
