Sorry to burst your bubble, that isn't how it works. Indeed there was a case a few years back which got some publicity that was a similar situation. Woman carrying groceries from car to house in the evening, guy comes up from behind, grabs her and holds knife to her throat. Woman takes her gun and shoots back over her shoulder, gets free, runs in house and calls police. Police arrive and find naked dead guy on her lawn and proceed with cleanup.
Sweet.
The key is practice.
