Not editing/ability to delete. And those are the big ones for me.
Deleting from google groups is possible, but many other servers have
post deletion turned off so that once something is posted, it remains.

But anyway, my question was whether there was another UK swim forum as
active as swimclub used to be. Are there any?

Maybe I don't know what you mean. When you say edit, do you mean edit
a post after it has been posted? Why is that a big one? Do you make
lots of embarrassing mistakes?

When you say delete, do you mean you don't want to see certain posts?
Most newsreaders can do that via a killfile or similar mechanism. Or
do you mean you don't want your post to be remembered at news servers.
They don't keep posts forever at news servers, so your posts will
eventually disappear at that level. There are, however, news archives,
but you can also avoid those by including "X-Noarchive" at the top of
your posts.

Sometimes this one is active, usually around the time of important
swim events. You can make it active yourself.

That's a reasonable solution. But what has happened in the past is
that I've deleted something myself, assuming that at least it will
disappear from everywhere, only to find it quoted back at me in full
by someone.

Yes, at present, I think this will be my best option. Or, will I have
offended everyone so much by asking for a "better" option that I'll
definitely be off on the wrong foot? :-)

Well, we don't mind sloppiness around here. None of us has a perfect
stroke. But if being able to edit posts is more important to you than
what Micheal Artindale has to say about speedos and laughing youth,
then this is not the forum for you.

I was surprised to hear it had closed, it always seemed very active
and well supported. So I went to check it out and found the following
info from the site administrator Chris Adkins:

"UPDATE (17/07/07) - Dear all. After some serious thinking, a number
of very nice emails, and an alcoholic beverage or two I have come to
the realisation that I must maintain www.SwimClub.co.uk and allow it
to grow into one of the most important sites on the internet for the
swimming community.

So .... after an upgrade and the implementation of some new moderation
regulations, www.SwimClub.co.uk will be re-opening.

I apologise for temporarily closing the site. I had seriously
considered closing it permanently but I now realise I have invested
too much time and effort to let it go that easily. A number of
visitors to the site have irritated me to such an extent that the
forums were VERY nearly closed. I'd like to think that these
individuals know who they are and may perhaps think of others rather
than just themselves in future.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and see you in a day or two."

So looks like you will be able to resume your previous activity in the
forums - I hope you weren't one of those causing problems!
