So, I am getting ready to swim and I see this 30-something woman already in the pool. There is something about her stroke (front crawl) that is unusual. Finally, I figure it out: She lifts her arm out of the water, elbow first from back near her hip BUT her arm enters the water in front of her...elbow first!
I am thinking: How does she do that? Talk about elbow rotation! Talk about wasted energy!

Perhaps she has a structural problem with her arm rather than swimming this way intensionally? Maybe her elbow is in a fixed position? Even then,I suppose, she could still put the hand in first... Madelaine

It was both arms. I saw her later in the lobby, and she looked normal from a distance. I just wonder who taught her to swim that way. Maybe next time, I'll ask.

There is a woman in my pool, also. She had a terrible accident, just a fall, but it was on farmland and her arm became infected. It was amputated about 6 inches below the shoulder. So she does the above with one arm, even more so, although not with the other. She does very well, actually. So, my question for Pat is: have you noticed anything missing?
