I use the pull bouy because of sore knees. Can a swimmer swim faster
with or without it? And which uses more energy?

Q: Can a swimmer swim faster with or without it?
A: More lift, so you swim fasterQ: And which uses more energy?
A: more lift, so less energy -

buoy. I'm a lot faster, because my kick is appalling. So if you have a
good kick, you might be a bit slower with a buoy. But if you don't
have a good kick. You will probably be faster with the buoy. I only
swim with a buoy or with fins now. -

A: more lift, so less energyMy guess was I had to work harder to do 10 laps before I used the pull
buoy a few years ago. -

propulsive at all probably you are faster with a the pull bouy. In my
opinion if you are faster with the pull bouy there are few problems
(or abnormalities) on your style.
But it also depends also on the distance you are perfoming, for long
distances it is much luckily that you can take advantages of pull
bouy.Quoted message said:

the aim of the pull buoy is to balance the gravity force, so you can
put much more effort on your arms preserving your legs, so you save
energies from the legs to focalize them to the arms.
I should say, that the energy level depends on the kind of work you
are performing.
For a relaxed swimming, probably you use less energy with pull bouy,
but if your main aim is to save energy, you can use a duck-shaped life
jacket, or a more hydrodinamic diving suit! :-)
Actually I didn't get the aim of your question: as far as I know the
aim of swimming is to go faster *without* any tool (except fast-
skins), the training tools are actually used to *train*, not to
directly improve your performances by using them ;-)bye,
