I'm doing it. Meeting up with friends beforehand & setting off in a group.
There's a couple of us sticking together as we cycle at the same rate: slow.
I think we may well be lanterne rouge :-)

Strictly speaking that ought to be lanternes rouges. But then again
there can only be one last so there will be one lantern rouge but
knowing your penchant for illumination the lanterne rouge will have
many lanternes rouges.

If my memories of how much my bum hurt last time serve, I may be

Afraid I'll be grass track racing on Sunday (78" fixed) and also
couldn't persaude bev to ride it for our wedding anniversary (28th July
and also 28th)

This year probably represents my best ever opportunity to do this as I
am on holiday either side of this weekend, and have no commitments for
once. Unless the forecast is for torrential, I'm going to be there. I'm
getting my new fixed wheel this week, but I think it's going to be
*way* too soon to ride that over that sort of distance, so it's the
cheap road bike or the dahon folder (probably not a good idea, although
I have heard that people have a go at it on bromptons).

I can't persuade anybody I know to join me, so I'm just going to have to
get down there and see if there's a group going at a nice medium-slow
pace I can tag along with.

I live near Colchester, and I have an Escort van, so I was wondering if
I could find somebody who would drive with me out to, say Aldeburgh or
Leiston, on sat morning or friday afternoon. Then it's just down the
road from the finish and we drive back (anywhere within a reasonable
radius of 30 or so miles from me might work well. The van has two seats,
and two bikes fit in the back nicely). I really want to do this this
year, so if it comes to it, I will just have to hack it back home on the
bike after a kip on the beach.

Thanks, Pete. All luck gratefully received and clinged too.

Nathan is mending. He did an open 15 at the weekend but was a DNF. Part
way though his saddle did a 180 degree turn. Luckily he managed to stay
on, but it cost him too much time and was not comfortable.

meeting. broken clavicle, dislocated finger (popped back in at the tip)
and a knee that will need manipulation to point straight. off to
fracture clinic this morning to get full assessment.

Thanks Pete - I'm still tyring to persuade the other half to come and
pick me up on Sunday morning, which would be the best option. She's not
keen, and any concessions I might have to make have to be weighed up
against the prospect of the ride back 😉

Well I almost missed the event completely due to get hopelessly lost
*twice* in North London, however thanks to the efforts of a very nice
policewoman I did arrive near the start just as a bunch including a
Speedmachine set off - I thus quickly tagged onto the back!

Got briefly mistaken for Dave Larringtonm, by someone on a Fujin SL,
around about 11PM. Made it to feeding station about 0240, forgot to look
at the time when I got to Dunwich!

Concluded that the ICE QNT is a complete pain to get around using public
transport, and thus may have to continue my habit of buying a recumbent
every 12 months in a 4th year!
