Blue Moon is a pretty good wheat beer, made in Texas of all
places and not very expensive!

I'll either go to an end of year (say a formal goodbye to those who
are leaving) dinner or a union meeting. Since one of the people we're
saying goodbye to is at the bottom of my esteem list and I can say
goodbye to everyone else in other ways, I think I'll pick the union
Lemonade Social & Contract Meeting.

No chance of them around here - too much garlic in this house. Oh, wait
that's to scare off vampires isn't it? 😉

It was on a moonlight night
The stars were shining bright.
And they whispered from on high,
"Your love has said goodbye"
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and said goodbye.
(Those of you familiar with Bill Monroe will have his irritating voice
in your heads all day long now. Patsy Cline doesn't count ;-)
Best regards,

I suspect it's also brewed elseware, seeing as it's made by Coors, but
you are right on, James. Blue Moon, an American version of a Belgian
witbier, is astonishingly good and one of my all time faves. It's nice
to see Coors offer something besides the traditional American "canoe"
beer they are known for. I hope they continue down that road.
Anyway, I like your suggestion best and plan on getting a sixer of
Blue Moon to celebrate this oft mentioned, but little understood
astronomical event. Cheers! 😉

I heard on NPR last night that a blue moon is the 4th moon in a 3-month
season. I guess it depends on who you ask.

You are referring to one of my all time favorite flicks 🙂

Had one last night by coincidence. Also tried a SweetWater Blue beer. It
had blueberries in it! Ugh. Way too sweet for my tastes. I fobbed it
off on someone who did enjoy it and ordered something on draft instead.

They have it right. Some writer for Sky & Telescope made a mistake back in
the 30s or maybe it was the 50s... but anyway, he made a mistake and it has
been perpetuated since then until its become the common belief.
A blue moon is the 4th moon in a season. They only happen in February, May,
August and November.

Well, duh, the 4th full moon in three months would have to be the 2nd
full moon in the current month.

Ahhh, but the second full moon of the month doesn't mean it's the 4th
full moon of a season.

Yes it does.
If the first or second month of a season has a second full moon, it will
be the second (first month) or third (second month) full moon of the
season. Only in the third month of a season will a second full moon be
the 4th of the season.

Using www.switchboard.com I found a Blue Moon Cafe a few towns away from me
but it's in a sleazy, "blue cheesy" part of town.

Yes, but the commonly repeated "second full moon in a single month" does
not have to be the 4th full moon in a season. Seasons don't line
up with months exactly. Spring starts in mid-March, so the 4th full moon
of Spring could be the first full moon in June I would think. And, in fact,
it is. A quick web search turns up the definition of a blue moon being
the 3rd full moon of a season having 4 full moons.
http://www.infoplease.com/spot/bluemoon1.html
Tonight's full moon happens to meet both definitions.

Whew!
It took four tries ...with a trip to the kitchen for another cup of
coffee (OBfood)... before that actually made sense. 😉
