Sunday at the farmers market, I was alarmed with all the empty tables of
produce. About 50 percent of the tables were empty. I got a small amount of
this and that and went home, worried that the best produce market for miles
around was going out of business.
Yesterday, I tried to call them and got no answer several times of day.
Today, I headed over awaiting an "Out of Business" sign and tumbleweeds,
after 50 years in business.
I arrived to NO parking, filled to the brim aisles of tables of fruit and
vegetables, not to mention elbow to elbow shoppers.
I cashed in my artichoke chips there much to my surprise, after 2 months of
the small purple 'chokes.
In spite of the bounty of goods, I still asked the cashier, "I was here on
Sunday and the tables were bare. Are you going out of business?"
She replied, "No, we closed early on Sunday so we didn't restock after
Saturday morning." I didn't ask why, imagining it might have been VA Tech
related or some equally sorrowful matter.
It was a relief to see the market overflowing with people and produce.
