  1. I'm hoping someone with a Cuisinart DLC-8 / pro custom 11 might be able to
    help with a question.

I purchased a new DLC-8 and was surprised to find that the main blade is
quite loose on the motor base shaft. The tip of the blade can be moved back
and forth more then half an inch without moving the motor shaft. A second
one purchased from a different store was the same.

Does yours have a similar amount of free play in the blade mounting? How
    old is yours? Thanks...

Our Custom 11 is many years old. I just checked and it has a similar
amount of play -- that is, enough play so that, referenced to the
outer tip of the blade, it is about 3/8" of play.

I'm guessing this is to lessen the chance of it seizing up
    during operation.

Hi Steve - thank you for going to the trouble of measuring the end play at
the tip of your blade. I measured my DLC-8S more exactly today and found
the end play to be just over three fourths of an inch, or about double the
end play on your old unit. With the accessory discs there is only about a
quarter inch of end play near the perimeter. It looks like a large batch of
them have been made this way. I contacted Cuisinart, and they are sending
replacements which will hopefully correct the problem.

    Thanks again.
