  1. Hi,

My girlfriend and I will be going to Barcelona and then onto to the
eastern Pyrenees - maybe to Andorra, maybe more!? and would love any
    ideas.

I will have 10 - 14 days to play with in the mountains and was looking
for any people who know the region well enough to advise as there is
    little useful info out there.

I would like to take in some of the higher peaks - 3000m sounds good
to me!! - but nothing that involves crampons and ice axes etc as
trying to make this a walking holiday only!

If you want any advice on other trails I have completed the GR20 in
Corsica and the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites in Italy and am more than
happy to share info on these great walks.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    All the best,

    Chris

You don't say what dates. 3000m will involve white stuff after some
point in September. If you're both fit, OK with high mountains and
navigation, have a look at www.laportadelcel.com. It's 4-5 days hut
to hut just west of Andorra. Must be reserved. I can squirt the
waypoints at you if you decide to do it.

There are some good cross-border routes in broadly the same area if
you want to dip into France (Salau and the Haut Salat), and some great
circular routes in the Cardos and surrounding valleys and peaks
(basically the three valleys in Spain, immediately west of Andorra),
plus sections of the GR11 and HRP. I've been going there for the
past six years following a full traverse and don't see any prospect of
    exhausting the possibilities.

Only problem is access by public transport; it can be done from
Barcelona, but you'll waste a day in each direction, so better to rent
    a car if you can.

I don't want to clutter the group with lists of hotels, favourite
places, etc, so e me off-group if you need more. And the GR20 is on
    my hitlist...

    Thanks David,

    I highly recommend the GR20, it's a wonderful walk on a wonderful
island that seems to have escaped the overdevelopment that has tainted
    alot of Europe.

That's what I'm looking forward to in the Pyrenees - unspoiled walking
    possibilities.

I'll have a look at the site you recommend and consider renting a
car. I've never driven abroad before - apart from a motorcycle in
Thailand, and that doesn't really count!

Thanks again for the info, you may well be hearing from me in the
    future.
