  1. Can I use a nine speed narrow chain on an eight speed cluster with a triple crankset?

  2. I am 90 percent sure. You can't go the other way but you can use the narrow chain on the 8 speed.

    I just did on my Mtn. bike - it works like a dream! Smoother and quieter shifting.

  4. I tried a 9-speed chain (Dura Ace) on my 8-speed double crank (Athena) and wound up throwing the chain off on every front downshift. I just couldn't adjust the FD to prevent it and finally twisted a link and threw it away. Put on an 8-speed SRAM chain and it's perfect again.
