I am 90 percent sure. You can't go the other way but you can use the narrow chain on the 8 speed.

I tried a 9-speed chain (Dura Ace) on my 8-speed double crank (Athena) and wound up throwing the chain off on every front downshift. I just couldn't adjust the FD to prevent it and finally twisted a link and threw it away. Put on an 8-speed SRAM chain and it's perfect again.
